Practical first-timer tips: * Payments: a lot of places are largely cashless, so set up Alipay/WeChat Pay before you land if you can. * Reservations: for any “view” meal (Bund especially), reserve early and request the seat you want. * Timing: Bund + Nanjing Road are best after dark IMO; Yu Garden area is also great in the evening (even if you don’t enter the garden itself). * Connectivity: get an eSIM/SIM so maps + translation work instantly. Popular foods to try in Shanghai (quick list): * Xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) * Shengjianbao (pan-fried soup dumplings) * Cong you ban mian (scallion oil noodles) * Hong shao rou (red-braised pork) * Hairy crab / crab roe dishes (best in late autumn.
